SUMMARY OF DUTIES

This position reports to the Executive Chef. The Housekeeping Attendant is responsible for providing housekeeping, hospitality and general support services at the Official Residence of the High Commissioner of Canada in Singapore. 

The role is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, presentation and readiness of the Official Residence. The incumbent supports official events and hospitality functions, assists with housekeeping and guest service duties, and contributes to the smooth day-to-day operation of the residence.

Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to) 

  • Housekeeping Services: Maintain the cleanliness, orderliness and presentation of the Official Residence, including laundry and linen care, and the care and upkeep of tableware, furnishings and other residence assets.
  • Hospitality Support: Support official functions, receptions, meetings and other hospitality events, including event setup, food and beverage service, and assistance with event preparations. 
  • Guest Services: Provide courteous and professional assistance to guests and visitors at the Official Residence.
  • Supplies and Inventory: Monitor and maintain housekeeping supplies, equipment and household inventories.
  • Residence Operations: Support the day-to-day operation of the Official Residence, including coordinating purchases, deliveries and service providers as required. 
  • Maintenance and Safety: Identify and report maintenance issues and follow established health, safety and security procedures. 
  • General Support: Perform other related duties in support of the Official Residence and hospitality program.

Education

This position requires:

  • Minimum GCE O Level or an acceptable combination or education, training and relevant work experience.

Language

The Following languages and proficiency levels are required for this job. Candidates will be formally assessed or requested to provide proof of certification on these levels. 

  • An intermediate proficiency level (reading, writing, comprehension, and speaking) in English.

Experience

In order to perform the duties relevant to this job, the following experience is required.

  • Currently working in Singapore with at least 2-3 years of local employment experience.
  • Recent 2-3 years* of experience in housekeeping and hospitality support within residential, hotel, or similar service-oriented environments.
  • Experience interacting with guests, clients or members of the public in a professional setting.

*Recent experience is defined as within the past 2-3 years.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.

  • Experience working in an Official Residence, Embassy, High Commission, Consulate, diplomatic mission or similar environment.
  • Experience supporting official hospitality events, including high-level visits and formal receptions.
  • Basic food preparation or food service experience.
  • Proficiency (reading/writing/speaking) in French
  • Basic computer skills, including MS Word and email.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Operational requirements will be assessed on a “meet/does not meet“ basis and can be used to determine right fit of a candidate for the position.

  • Work hours per week: 40 hours.  
  • Hours of work: Monday-Friday: 09:00 to 18:00.  
  • Must be able to work paid overtime on short notice on occasion, including evenings and weekends, in support of official functions and hospitality events. 
  • Ability to perform physical duties, including lifting, carrying and moving supplies and equipment. 
  • The High Commission operates a schedule of public holidays according to a combination of Singaporean and Canadian dates, which means you will be required to work on certain Singaporean public holidays 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position. They are to be maintained throughout the employment period.

  • Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.
  • Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada. 
  • Medical: pre-employment medical examination
